Originally from Canada, Renée Reâd began her Production Design career in Montreal and now works internationally, with a reputation for excellence in prestige world-building. Most recently, she designed the spectacular Gothic universe for the hit NETFLIX series American Primeval, created by Mark L. Smith and directed by Peter Berg. THE REVENANT prequel stars Taylor Kitsch, Betty Gilpin, Shea Wigham, and Dane DeHaan and features Reâd’s meticulous, mammoth sets, praised as both “staggering” (GQ) and “an exhaustive, exacting commitment to realism” (The New York Times).

 

Reâd’s work spans features and television, including the critically acclaimed FX series Under the Banner of Heaven, starring Andrew Garfield, and the Margot Robbie & John Wells’ NETFLIX series Maid, starring Margaret Qualley, both nominated for Best Limited Series at the Critics Choice Awards and amassing 8 Emmy and Golden Globe nominations between them. Other credits include Stephen King’s dystopian fantasy The Stand, starring Alexander Skarsgard, and NETFLIX’S sci-fi thriller Another Life. 

 

In the features space, Reâd designed Jesse V. Johnson’s action thriller The Package and Walter Hill’s The Assignment, as well as Sook-Yin Lee’s Year of the Carnivore and Michael Goldbach’s Daydream Nation, the latter three official selections at the Toronto International Film Festival. Some of Reâd’s other collaborators include David Mackenzie, Eric Newman, Ron Howard, Dustin Lance Black, and Helen Shaver.

 

With a degree in Film Design at Concordia and Poli-Sci from UVic, Renée is a universal talent with experience working in cities across North America. She consistently executes high-concept worlds in foreign environments on time and within budget, reflecting the rare and valuable skill of successfully negotiating aesthetics, schedules and dollar bills.
