Nikolaus Summerer is a German cinematographer known for his frequent collaborations with director Baran Bo Odar, having shot two of Baran's features Who Am I and The Silence, as well as two of Baran's prestige television dramas, Dark and 1899. Nik's experience also spans across music videos and commercials, having shot for brands including Sony, ARRI, RedBull, Greenpeace, The History Channel, and Amazon. Nik most recently wrapped production on HBO/Legendary Entertainment's upcoming Dune: The Prophecy .

Nik has a wealth of experience filming on a volume stage: for the Netflix series 1899, he helped develop a virtual production/LED volume studio in which he filmed for over 50 days. Among some of its most unique innovations were a rain rig and a 21 meter turntable used to rotate and exchange sets.

Nik was nominated for an ASC award for Best Cinematography, as well as a Golden Frog at CamerImage for his work on 1899. He won the Best Cinematography German TV Academy Award for his work on Dark. He won the Best Cinematography, German Camera Award for his work on Who Am I and won the Vision Award for Cinematography at Slamdance FF for his work on Under the Sun.
